The ID.4’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Macan Electric doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

Both the ID.4 and Macan Electric have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The ID.4 has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Macan Electric’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The ID.4 has a standard Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Macan Electric doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The ID.4 has standard Maneuver Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Macan Electric doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

The ID.4’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Macan Electric doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the ID.4 and the Macan Electric have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

The Volkswagen ID.4 achieved a “Top Safety Pick” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for the 2024 model year. This recognition was based on its impressive performance in the small overlap frontal crash test, updated side impact crash test, headlight evaluations, and pedestrian crash prevention testing. The Macan Electric has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2024.

Volkswagen’s powertrain warranty covers the ID.4 4 years and 50,000 miles longer than Porsche covers the Macan Electric. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Macan Electric ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

Volkswagen pays for scheduled maintenance on the ID.4 for 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Porsche pays for maintenance for the Macan Electric (2/20,000 vs. 1/10,000).

There are over 3 times as many Volkswagen dealers as there are Porsche dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the ID.4’s warranty.

The ID.4 can travel with zero emissions for 206 to 291 miles (dependent on model). The Macan Electric can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

For better maneuverability, the ID.4’s turning circle is 8.2 feet tighter than the Macan Electric’s (31.5 feet vs. 39.7 feet). The ID.4 AWD’s turning circle is 3.3 feet tighter than the Macan Electric’s (36.42 feet vs. 39.7 feet).

The Volkswagen ID.4 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 500 to 950 pounds less than the Porsche Macan Electric.

The ID.4 is 7.9 inches shorter than the Macan Electric, making the ID.4 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The ID.4 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Macan Electric with its rear seat up (30.3 vs. 22.9 cubic feet). The ID.4 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Macan Electric with its rear seat folded (64.2 vs. 59.5 cubic feet).

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the ID.4’s liftgate can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Macan Electric doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

The ID.4 has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Macan Electric doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The ID.4’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Macan Electric’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the ID.4 has a standard rear wiper. A rear wiper costs extra on the Macan Electric.

The ID.4 is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Macan Electric doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
